Collection of Personal Information
LJ Harper & Company only collects personal information necessary for us to carry out our functions and activities such as:

  • to supply you with goods or services that you have requested;

  • to process your order made through www.ljharper.com.au, or by telephone, fax and mail;

  • to provide you with information you have requested from us;

  • to provide you with information regarding an order you have placed with us;

  • to provide you with information about new releases, special offers, pre-publication specials and new products and services offered by LJ Harper & Company; and

  • to improve your shopping experience.

The types of personal information that LJ Harper & Company collects generally includes your name, telephone number, mailing address, delivery address, email address, account details and credit card details.

If it is reasonable and practicable to do so, LJ Harper & Company will collect personal information directly from you. We may collect personal information when you deal with LJ Harper & Company over the phone, when you send us correspondence (such as letters, faxes and emails), when you register on www.ljharper.com.au, when you submit queries and other forms on www.ljharper.com.au and when you request media, catalogues or brochures from us.

Our service provider makes a record of your visit to www.ljharper.com.au and logs information from your browser including your IP address the date and time of you visit, the pages accessed, documents downloaded and the type of browser used. This is done as a fraud prevention measure, to enable us to evaluate www.ljharper.com.au usage and improve our online service. The information collected is not linked back to individual users except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect the service provider’s logs. In addition, when you use our online search facility we collect information about what you are searching for. LJ Harper & Company uses that information to evaluate our service and determine if we are providing the products and services you desire. The information collected is not linked back to the individual.

Should you not wish to provide the requested personal information, you may purchase products from LJ Harper & Company directly by paying in cash in full at the time of purchase. When making a purchase from LJ Harper & Company via www.ljharper.com.au, if you are an Australian customer, and you would prefer not to enter your credit card details though the internet, you may contact us after you submit your online order to arrange one of the following alternative methods of payment: providing us with your credit card details over the phone; faxing your credit card details to us; mailing a cheque or money order to LJ Harper & Company or paying via Direct Deposit.

If we collect personal information about you from someone else, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that you are aware that you may gain access to that information, the purpose of its collection and the organisations to which that information may be disclosed.

Failure to provide us with the requested information may result in a delay in providing you with goods or services requested from us or may mean that we cannot provide you with those goods or services.

LJ Harper & Company will only collect personal information by lawful and fair means and not in an unreasonably intrusive way.


Additional uses of information
To improve the services provided by LJ Harper & Company the Department will extract and publish aggregated information about usage patterns from these records. For example, our usage reports will examine trends based on the following information - your server address, your top level domain name (for example .com, .gov, .au, .uk etc), the date and time of visit to the site, the pages accessed and documents downloaded, the previous site visited, the type of browser used and operating system.

What won’t you do with the information?
LJ Harper & Company will not disclose or publish information which identifies individual machines, or potentially identifies sub-groupings of addresses, without consent.

What exceptions are there to this rule?
LJ Harper & Company will gather more extensive information than stated above in the following circumstances:

  •   unauthorised attempts to access files which are not published LJ Harper & Company pages;

  • unauthorised tampering or interference with files published on www.ljharper.com.au;
  • unauthorised attempts to index the contents of www.ljharper.com.au by other web sites;

  • communications which are defamatory, abusive, vilify individuals or groups or which give rise to a suspicion that an offence is being committed;

  • attempts to otherwise compromise the security of the web server, breach the laws of the State of New South Wales or Commonwealth of Australia, or interfere with the enjoyment of LJ Harper & Company by other users.

LJ Harper & Company reserves the right to make disclosures to relevant authorities where the use of www.ljharper.com.auraises a suspicion that an offence is being, or has been, committed.

In the unlikely event of an investigation, LJ Harper & Company will provide access to data to any law enforcement agency that may exercise a warrant to inspect our logs.

Receiving Email and Other Correspondence (Opting-Out)
www.ljharper.com.au provides users with the opportunity to op-out of receiving communications from us.

If you have already submitted your registration information and granted your permission to receive email correspondence you may amend your preferences by completing this contact form by contacting our Privacy Officer at LJ Harper & Company Pty Ltd, 121 Bath Road, Kirrawee, NSW 2232. You may also opt-out of receiving email correspondence by resending the relevant email to us and typing “remove” in the subject heading. You may receive a further email from us confirming your request.

LJ Harper & Company may use your postal correspondence information you have supplied to us to provide you with periodic mailings with information on events, new releases, special offers and pre-publication specials. Where we receive a request from you with respect to your privacy options as noted above, we will use our reasonable efforts to delete the relevant personal information from our records. However, we cannot guarantee that the information has been deleted as there is a possibility that a residual copy of the information will be maintained on a back-up system.


Will this policy be updated over time?

Due to the developing nature of privacy principles for online communication, this policy may be modified or expanded in light of new developments or issues that may arise from time to time.
